Consulting

I help cultural organizations, scholars, and independent creators find their public voice — through podcasting, digital storytelling, and history that connects.

I do my best work at the moment when a raw idea starts to click into shape: when a podcast concept finally finds its format, when an exhibit finds the story underneath the artifacts, when a book idea stops being “something I want to write” and becomes a plan. That’s the work I keep coming back to: helping people and organizations find the structure that was already inside their material. I’ve done this as a digital storytelling consultant in higher ed, as a partner to museums and nonprofits building exhibits and programming, as a teacher of public history and digital humanities skills to student and community groups, and as a coach to individual creators shaping podcasts, newsletters, portfolios, and books. I am inspired to do this because I so enjoy this creative practice in my own work. I’ve ushered my own podcasts, book, digital exhibits, and newsletter from the idea stage to publication, and my work has reached national audiences and been referenced in the New York Times, the New Yorker, Paris Review, and more.

I can’t wait to think with you about your work.

Who this is for:

  • You have an idea and no shape yet. A podcast concept, a book, an exhibit, a program — you know there’s something there, but you can’t yet say what it is or how it should work.
  • You have material and no story yet. Research, an archive, a collection of interviews — you need someone who can find the narrative inside it and help you tell it to a public audience.
  • You have momentum and need a second brain. You’re mid-project and want an outside, structurally-minded read on whether the format, sequence, or framing is actually working.

Whether you’re one person or a whole team, the work is the same kind of conversation.

How It Works

Book an Office Hours consult, then fill out a short intake form letting me know about your project and what you’re hoping to get out of our time together. We’ll meet virtually to talk through your idea, and I’ll offer preliminary feedback and initial ideas. Afterward, I’ll follow up with a written recap and, if it’s a fit, a proposed game plan and custom pricing for us to keep working together longer-term.

Office Hours — Initial Project Consult

60 minutes · Rate: $150 for individuals. Organizations should fill out the form below for custom pricing.

This is where we start, no matter the size of your project. We’ll review your idea together, and I’ll give you real feedback and preliminary direction. If it makes sense to keep working together, we’ll map out a game plan, and I’ll put together custom pricing based on your specific project.

Where This Can Lead: Recent Projects

Office Hours is just the start. Here’s the kind of longer-term work it’s led to:

  • Helped a historical society scope and develop a teen fellowship program in public and digital history, from concept through launch-ready design.
  • Worked with a scholar to shape years of research into a book proposal for a popular press.
  • Partnered with two scholars to build a digital edition anthology, along with a companion piece on the research and discovery process featuring all contributors.
  • Helped a travel business owner identify story templates to consistently share the stories behind her business.
  • Worked with individual creatives to develop newsletter concepts and launch plans from the ground up.
  • Partnered with a podcast producer to take an individual show idea from concept through production.
  • Guided a nonprofit through developing a new exhibit, from concept through production, to celebrate their 100th anniversary.
